In response to a question posted in the comment thread below: Yes, I believe Wizards will continue publishing my existing novels for as long as sales warrant it. Heck, Twilight Falling just went through a fifth printing and, as far as I know, The Erevis Cale Trilogy Omnibus is still on track for a June '10 release. And indeed I do continue to receive royalties for those sales.
Here's the thing: I consider these books and characters mine in all the ways that really matter, so I hope you'll continue to recommend them to friends, family, fans of the Realms, and fans of sword and sorcery . I plan to continue to promote them, even as I expand into other things.
Just FYI.

Paul, I created a livejournal account to write it. I've followed the story of Erevis Cale since the very beginning. I've just bought Mark Sehestedt's book and felt sentimental about the FR stories... and thought it is only a little more than half a year for the release of Godborn. When I saw the cover, I knew Vasen would rock and I would have a great time.
Now I feel like I don't care about FR any more (and I've just, this day, started Mark Sehestedt's lates book).
I'm extremely disappointed, but not with you, but with WotC... But I believe that The Cycle of Night will see it release one day, because it must - it is that simple! This storyline needs to be finished in one way or another. I hope that WotC will reconsider their steps. Someone had to be insane to let go the most talented author they have at the moment.
I am stunned... Hell, I hoped that Godborn would be a hardback and I would gladly pay 28$ for the book.
Lukasz

Do you have any plans to coninue writing fantasy novels in a world of your own creation? Such as Salvatore's Corona novels? I'd be really interested in reading something of your own creation in the fantasy genre.
With the Cale character, you have become my favorite author. I hope to see future books from you where you have no limitations and can take the story as far as your creative mind can go and where you have free reign to move the story in any direction of your own choosing.
Sad news. And +1 to elsenraill`s post. There's nothing to add. Cale was embodiment of FR for me and now I am not interested for this setting anymore. Z. from Russia.
I have to agree with what elsenraill said. You were/are without a doubt my favorite of the realms authors. I was pulled in by R.A. Salvatore, and was taken in by drizzt and co. But after reading cale, he EASILY and quickly become my favorite literary character. I sooo hope this story gets finished one day (soon) but ill still be hoping to read more from you paul, cale or no cale, ill be seeing what you come up with :)
The horror! Wait...write some horror, I'd like that. I've liked the snippets you've shown us so far of your other work. Though I'm sad not to see more of your work with Wizards, personally, I'm happy to see Wizards lose an excellent author. I really do not like where they are taking their worlds of fantasy. I'd like to see you join Paizo and perhaps start a book line with them or branch off and create your own series of fantasy. Either way, I wish you nothing but success.
That's good to hear. My copy of Shadowbred had some weird smudges in it when I bought it. I may want to get a new one at some point.
Also, that's what omnibus means?
Jet,
In this case, an Omnibus means a collection of several novels into one volume.
See, I had heard the word Omnibus and not known what it meant and at other times, I've wondered if there were a word for a collection of several novels in one volume, so cool :P
By the way, completely unrelated to your post, but I just started following you on Twitter, and I read that article you mentioned to Don Bassingwaithe (sp) and I found it very interesting.

oh yeah Paul I just have a small inquiry. Is WOTC going to continue using Erevis, Riven and Vasen in future products or is that classified? Also how would you feel about your characters being handed down to a different author?
I don't think WotC will use the characters, no. But they could.
I don't think any author with an ounce of creative pride would feature another author's characters.
